Give Them Something to Eat
A Letter from the Publisher
By: Joe Difato
The beginning of a new year is traditionally a time for reflection: on our lives, our families, and our goals. It’s also a time to look back over the past year and reflect on its ups and downs. Well, 2016 also marks the beginning of our thirty-fifth year of publication, and to mark this milestone, we want to share with you some reflections on our history and calling.
We often tell ourselves that this magazine belongs to God and not to us. None of us would be doing this if it weren’t for the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We would all be following other career goals. But we were all touched and changed by the grace of God, and we changed our plans so that we could serve the Lord with our lives.
Thirty-five years ago, we felt that God was calling us to share what the Holy Spirit was showing us: that everyone can have a personal relationship with Jesus, that the Holy Spirit can transform and renew our minds, and that God’s love for us is constant. These are the same truths that we feel called to share today.
None of us had any publishing experience when we started to put this message down on paper. We didn’t even know if the magazine would survive! But we felt God asking us to “give them something to eat” (Matthew 14:16, RSV). Now, thirty-five years later, I am in awe of God’s work. I am especially touched by the thousands of letters and messages readers have sent us describing the marvelous things God has done for them.
So as we look to the future, I pray that God will help us to remain faithful to our calling. Please pray for us—as we promise to pray for you. May we all become a little more like Jesus every day!
