The “Lesson of the Lepers”
A story of mercy by one who failed to show it.

I assumed that I was doing my part during the Year of Mercy. I listened to teachings about mercy. I made several trips to pass through the Holy Door at our cathedral to obtain indulgences for family members. I paid extra attention whenever Pope Francis was in the news. But then came one night, outside of a church setting, when I had the chance to do something merciful—and I passed it by.
A Chance Encounter. I was going for an evening walk on my usual route. This was my time to think and pray while getting some exercise....
