Blessed Are You Who Believe
Mary Shows Us the Way of Faith
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb” (Luke 1:42). We’re very familiar with these words, which come from Elizabeth’s greeting to her cousin Mary during the Visitation. We say them every time we pray the Hail Mary. But Elizabeth speaks another blessing that is just as moving: “Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled” (1:45). Elizabeth blessed Mary not only for receiving Jesus into her womb but also for actively believing in God’s promises to her.
